How live-in care in Chester works

A carer moves into your home and supports you through the day: getting up and dressed, washing, meals, medicines support, housework, getting out and about, and company. They have their own room, daily breaks and a proper night's sleep. Our team in Blacon stays responsible for the care the whole time.

  1. A conversation. Call 01244 457 244 or send us a message. Please don't put medical details in the form.
  2. An assessment. We meet the person at home, or on the ward if they are in hospital, to understand their needs, routines and risks.
  3. A written care plan and price. Agreed with the person and their family before care starts.
  4. A matched carer. Chosen for skills and personality. Live-in carers are engaged by Pinnacle Caring Services Ltd on a self-employed contractor basis.
  5. Ongoing supervision and reviews. We check in, update the plan as needs change and arrange cover for breaks, holidays and illness.

Coming home from the Countess of Chester Hospital

Most people in Chester are treated at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Before discharge, ask the ward which discharge pathway the person is on and what support is arranged for the first day at home. If more help is needed than short daily visits, live-in care can be planned before discharge: we can assess the person on the ward. Read our hospital discharge checklist; professionals can use our hospital discharge referral page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does live-in care cost in Chester?

Prices depend on the level of need, whether care is for one person or a couple, and whether help is needed at night. As a guide, the UK median for live-in care was £230 a day (about £1,610 a week) at the end of September 2026, according to the Lottie Home Care Index. We give you a written price after we have assessed the person's needs.

Which parts of Chester do you cover?

We support people in Chester and across Cheshire West and Chester. Our office is in Blacon, so Chester is our home area. Live-in care can also be arranged elsewhere in England after an assessment, depending on carer availability.

Can live-in care start when someone leaves the Countess of Chester Hospital?

Often, yes. We can talk to the family and the ward's discharge team, assess the person and plan care to start when they come home. The start date depends on the assessment and on carer availability, so please contact us as early as you can.

Will Cheshire West and Chester Council pay for live-in care?

The council may contribute if the person has eligible needs and their savings are below £23,250 (England, 2026/27), after a care needs assessment and a financial assessment. Contact the Community Access Team on 0300 123 7034 or use the council's online self-assessment. If the council funds care, you can ask for a direct payment to buy care from a provider you choose.

Is a live-in carer awake all night?

No. A live-in carer lives in the home, has their own bedroom, needs a proper night's sleep and takes daily breaks. If someone needs help most nights, the care plan should include extra night support. We will tell you honestly at the assessment.

Do you provide care in Wales?

No. We are registered with the CQC to provide care in England. Care services in Wales are regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales.
